Remembering Jim Henson
As I was reflecting on what designers I admire, one of the greatest influences was Jim Henson. His work was a major part of my childhood. He will always be missed but remembered.

Communication
Today I read a friend's blog about communication. I am posting a link here to the blog and my response below.
Dale's Blog
My Response:
I am in the business of communication, healthcare marketing to be exact. Communication is essential to being a good marketer. Recently as a firm we have embraced social media. Before we embraced it as a firm, over half us were already on both facebook and twitter. We also have a blog, but I'm not going to talk about it today. We have taken the opportunity to market via twitter and facebook. We are looking into other social media ways to market, but these are just two that we are currently focusing on. Recently, we have encouraged our clients to become a part of both facebook and twitter in order to network.
We also use email marketing as one of our main ways to communicate with our client's clients. We do not use constant contact, but Emma. Emma serves us better as a company than as ConstantContact's non-profit and small business work. CC seems to be doing great work. Some of our long lasting non-profit clients are using them and are happy.
I have found that twitter has helped me in getting in contact with experts in certain fields. It has been great to form relationships with these people and learn new things. Facebook has done about the same thing for me, but has kept me in contact with friends from school from years past.
Twitter is fun and very informative. Remember when the plane crashed in the Hudson River? That story was first posted on twitter. Also, I use it to get news. I get the most important news from twitter since its so much faster than reading the entire story. Of course you can't believe everything that is on twitter but you can get someone's opinion. Twitter has paid off when it comes to traveling. You can count on someone posting that there is wreck up ahead and you can change your driving plans for that day. The bottom line is to just be smart when twittering and facebooking.

For real, I'm tired
Last night I finally got into bed at 10:45 and watched tv for 30 minutes. I could not go to sleep even after watching/listening to a vidcast on my iPhone. Then I tried until almost midnight to go to sleep and it was super hard. Finally, I had reached my point of extreme restlessness and began to pray. I know that it must have not been that long, but nonetheless it made me relax and drift asleep. I think that is one of the greatest things about prayer - the ability to just relax and give it all up. Today, I am tired but its ok. I'll drink some tea and all will be better.

Time Change and Monday
Today begins the first Monday in standard time in most of the US. Its when the US is sent into jetlag over the need for time to change from the winter schedule. Today, I am super tired. I think it had something to do with my sleep routine being totally screwed up last night and then being hot. I considered Benedrill, but I didn't take any due to a possible hang over. So, today I am going to try to go to bed earlier but I think its going to take me about a week to get used to the time change again. At least when I go home until from now until the time changes again, it will be daylight.
Going to make some tea with some caffeine in it and hope it helps kick the day off.

Purpose and Portfolio Progress
Today at lunch I have made some progress on my Statement of Purpose. The introduction is still in its first version, but I'm sure it will see continued change as the days progress. Thanks to great friends who have volunteered to take a look at it once I am finished, I hope to have a pretty decent paper.
Also, my portfolio has been review by a friend so I hope to get it done and in shortly.
Things seem to be progressing nicely. I'm sure I have a lot more work to do, but the hard part is over and that is getting started.

Mathmatically Speaking
I really hate doing this but, the article is so good you should take a look at it. It explains the mathematical approach to design that we can't always take the time to consider as designers. Its a nice read.

Graphic Design Stuff
This morning I found a few items I wanted to share with you that I believe are very creative. I found these via twitter. You should check them out at http://www.graphicfetish.com.
Here is one by Iam Mabilangan. It really caught my eye because I thought it would be a great idea for a ad.
click here for his site: http://www.behance.net/ian_nazgul9
I think that the definition style was the assignment because several people in a row were into this idea.
This is a work by Paolo Dizon. Check out more of his work at http://www.behance.net/siops.
I like his color scheme and way he uses texture. I am not sure if creamy was the appropriate word to choose for this but over all the design is nice.
This is the first frame in the series of this brochure. I love the color scheme and the type choice. I really wish I had a sample of it so that I could feel the paper. It looks like it should be on some recycled paper.

The Walt Disney World Half Marathon
I think that I really want to do the WDW Half Marathon this year. I have heard a lot of feedback from those that have done it over the years and it really seems like a possibility. I think I can do it. It costs $120, so if I sign up, then I have to go.
Just something I am thinking about.

Logos
Today and for the past few days I have been working on a logo for a communications company that is starting up soon. I have hit the wall on icon ideas, so I have turned to one of my tride and true inspiration sites, logopond.com. I am posting a few logos that I thought were pretty cleaver. Check out the details on logopond. The links are included here.

Monday
Mondays are the worst. You either are really excited about the week ahead or you're super tired from the weekend you had. This weekend, I slept a lot. That was probably a really bad thing because I ended up staying up way too late and so my sleep schedule was messed up. This week I am not super excited. I have the same 2 projects in my inbox that I had for most of last week. One is a logo that I am stuck on and another is a t-shirt that I am waiting on the vendor for information. I really just want a new project in my life. Today, I hope to be able to find the logo gone from my box and the t-shirt question answered.
Happy Monday to the rest of you.
